Eddy related systems, also known as vorticity covariance systems, are a micrometeorological measurement method. It uses the principle of vorticity and uses fast-response sensors to measure the exchange of matter and energy on the underlying surface of the atmosphere. The eddy covariance system can measure sensible heat flux, latent heat flux, momentum flux, frictional wind speed, and other material fluxes (such as CO2, etc.).

The eddy covariance system can be applied in many fields such as boundary layer theory research, atmospheric diffusion, energy budget research, water and other material budget research. Depending on the configuration of the instrument, the vortex covariance system can be divided into an open circuit vortex covariance system and a closed circuit vortex covariance system.
