By using a nitrogen-purged spectrometer and using the attenuated total reflection method (ATR method), this device can measure the far-ultraviolet spectrum of liquids in the far-ultraviolet region (wavelength 145 to 300nm), which was not possible with conventional methods .

What is Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR)?
This is a method of observing an absorption spectrum using light called an evanescent wave, which slightly seeps out from the surface of a reflective element during total reflection . The feature is that the light penetration depth is very short, about the wavelength.
