HP Grade Graphite Electrodes

HP-grade graphite electrode, or High Power graphite electrode, is a high-performance graphite electrode material. Its main features are high electrical conductivity and good heat resistance, and it is suitable for large furnaces, such as electric furnaces and ladles with large furnace capacity. The common diameters of HP grade graphite electrodes are 300, 350, 400, and 450 mm, and the lengths are 1500 and 1800 mm.

In the smelting industry, graphite electrodes are mainly used in electric arc steelmaking furnaces, which use the heat generated by the arc for smelting. The size of the capacitor is equipped with graphite electrodes of different diameters that can be used continuously. Graphite used as an electrode material for steelmaking accounts for about 70 to 80% of the total graphite electrode usage in China. In addition, graphite electrodes are also used in submerged thermal electric furnaces, mainly for the production of ferroalloys, pure silicon, yellow phosphorus, calcium carbide and matte. The characteristic of the submerged thermal electric furnace is that the lower part of the conductive electrode is buried in the charge. Therefore, in addition to the heat generated by the arc between the electric plate and the charge, heat is also generated by the resistance of the charge when current passes through the charge.

The production process of graphite electrodes includes calcination, pressing and roasting. Calcination is the first heat treatment process in carbon production, which causes a series of changes in the structure and physical and chemical properties of various carbonaceous raw materials. Molding is an extrusion operation that makes the paste pass through a die nozzle of a certain shape and become a blank with a certain shape and size. Roasting reduces the resistivity of the raw product and makes it a good conductor, while further shrinking the volume.
