MgO is a good insulator, and the resistivity decreases sharply with the increase in temperature. Magnesium oxide ceramics are typical alkaline refractories, which can work stably to 2400℃ under an oxidation atmosphere or nitrogen protection. Fe、Zn、Pb、Cu、M and other metals do not reduce it. MgO ceramics can be used as a crucible for smelting metals（Amorphous alloy）, as well as high purity uranium and thorium in the atomic energy industry, and as thermocouple protective casing.
