Product Details

MOPS 3-N-morpholinylpropane sulfonic acid is a zwitterionic amino acid commonly used in biochemistry and molecular biology as a buffering reagent for zwitterions. It appears as a white crystalline powder with CAS number 1132-61-2. Molecular formula: C7H15NO4S. Molecular weight: 209.26. Effective buffering range: pH 6.5-7.9 pKa: 7.2 (25 ℃), easily soluble in water. It has a similar structure to MES, but MOPS buffer is more suitable as a biological buffer than MES buffer because its pKa is closer to the physiological pH value of 7.4 than MES (pKa=6.1).

MOPS is suitable for:

1. Electron transfer and phosphorylation for chloroplast thin layer preparation, which can be formulated into various agar cultures and used as a non-toxic buffer in basic cell culture media;

2. Used for cultivating fecal streptomyces and cephalosporins;

3. As a component of electrolyte system in two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (IEF)

4. It is also suitable for Northern hybridization as a buffer for RNA separation and membrane transfer.
