Urea
Urea, also known
as urea or carbamide, is a final product of protein
metabolism in humans and mammals, and a major organic
nitrogen compound excreted by animals. Pure product is
white granular or needle-like, prismatic crystallization,
mixed with iron and other heavy metals is light red or
yellow. Tasteless and odourless, soluble in water,
ethanol and benzene, difficult to dissolve in ether and
chloroform. At 20ºC, 100 kg water can dissolve 105 kg
urea, which is endothermic when
dissolved.
Aqueous solution has a neutral reaction. Pure
nitrogen content is 46.65%, agricultural urea is 42% ~
46%, containing a small amount of biuret, generally
less than 2%, usually harmless to crop Chemicalbook
growth; Urea has a small specific gravity and bulk
density of 0.65 tons per cubic meter of fertilizer.
Urea in the temperature below 20ºC and relative
humidity below 70%, not only does not absorb moisture,
will make water evaporation and reduce its water
content; When the temperature exceeds 20ºC, relative
humidity is higher than 80%, then began to hygroscopic,
serious when it was mushy, the air turned dry again
when it was agglomerated, its degree is second only to
ammonium nitrate. At 80ºC, the aqueous urea solution
will undergo hydrolysis and decomposition reaction,
forming ammonium carbamate and ammonia gas and carbon
dioxide
respectively.
Under acid and alkaline conditions, the
decomposition of urea is accelerated when it is
heated.
