Due to its rich mineral composition Soapstone has its vast number of applications in everyday industrial sectors. Soapstone/Talc has many uses in cosmetics and other personal care products. For example, it may be used to absorb moisture, to prevent caking, to make facial makeup opaque, or to improve the feel of a product. Talcum powder, with heavy refinement, has been used in baby powder, an astringent powder used to prevent diaper rash (nappy rash).Soapstone/ Talc is often used as a marker for welding or metalworking. Soapstone/Talc may be used in the processing of white rice as a buffing agent in the polishing stage. Talc is also used as food additive or in pharmaceutical products as a glidant. In medicine, talc is used as a pleurodesis agent to prevent recurrent pleural effusion or pneumothorax. In the European Union, the additive number is E553b.
