Hypochlorite For Water Treatment
Calcium hypochlorite is produced by reacting
chlorine with calcium hydroxide (slaked lime).
Because absolutely dry calcium hydroxide does not
react with chlorine, chlorine can only be absorbed
by calcium hydroxide. The chlorine gas is
hydrolyzed to form an acid (HClO, HCl) by using
free water in the raw material, and the resulting
acid is neutralized by hydrated lime. Subsequently,
depending on the water precipitated from the
calcium hydroxide during the chlorination reaction,
the chlorine is continuously hydrolyzed, and more
calcium hydroxide is involved in the reaction
process to form a series of compounds. Bleaching
powder is a complex of these compounds.
