Application:Grain refiner for aluminium and aluminium alloy
The addition of titanium at very low levels is a traditional method of grain refining aluminum and its alloys. Certain international standard specifications do include mandatory limits for titanium, particularly the foundry alloys, but in most cases its presence is optional.
Titanium additions often continue to be favoured in cases where the exclusion of hard intermetallic particles is considered to be paramount, such as foil stock, lithographic sheet and automotive trim. Titanium is most easily introduced as AlTi master alloy either in ingot form or as rod for continuous addition into the launder outside the furnace.
