Dielectric loss/power factor measurement on power transformers (Tan Delta)

The insulation state is very important for the safe and reliable operation of the transformer. Measuring the capacitance and dissipation factor/power factor of the insulation helps to determine the insulation state between the bushing or winding.

For example, a change in capacitance indicates a mechanical displacement of the winding or a local breakdown in the bushing. The aging and deterioration of the insulation, coupled with the ingress of moisture, increase the total amount of electrical energy converted into heat in the insulation. These energy loss rates are measured as dielectric loss factors.

Through our test system, the capacitance and dielectric loss factor/power factor can be measured through variable frequency signals. In this way, the aging phenomenon can be detected early, and corresponding measures can be taken to deal with it, such as repair, oil treatment or drying.
