Laminated glass is a type of safety glass that is
composed of two or more layers of glass bonded together
with an interlayer of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or
ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) in between. The interlayer
is what gives laminated glass its unique properties.
The primary purpose of laminated glass is to enhance
safety. When the glass breaks, the interlayer holds the
fragments together, preventing them from shattering
into sharp pieces. This characteristic makes laminated
glass particularly suitable for applications where
human safety is a concern, such as in car windshields,
overhead glass in buildings, and glass railings.
