日常所用的自来水之所以能导电是因为水中有大量的矿物盐存在，电极式蒸汽加湿器的工作原理就是利用水的导电性。

当带有矿物盐的水通过进水阀进入加湿桶后，加湿桶上部的电极片随着水位的逐渐上升会浸入水中，由于带有矿物盐的水是导体，所以当水与电极片接触就会形成通路，此时对电极片加载电压，水中的离子就会高速运动，产生热能，从而使水发热产生洁净的饱和蒸汽，再经由蒸汽扩散装置送入空调箱或风管中，从而达到给空气加湿的目的。

蒸发时水位会下降，但蒸汽带不走水中的矿物盐，这样水中的矿物盐浓度会增加，从而电导率也会增加，一旦电流达到微处理器控制设定的上限值，排水阀就会排出高浓度水，然后又通过进水阀补充新水，达到稀释的目的，从而起到保护加湿桶的目的。

长期运行产生的水垢会附着在电极板上，会阻隔电极片与水中离子的接触，从而影响加湿量，所以加湿桶要定期清洗和更换。

The scale generated by long-term operation will adhere to the electrode plate and block the contact between the electrode sheet and the ions in the water, thus affecting the humidification amount. Therefore, the humidifying bucket should be cleaned and replaced regularly.
