Carbon steel wire is the most common steel wire material for industrial and manufacture application with high hardness, strength, wear resistance and anti-corrosion. Carbon steel, is a metal alloy formed by combining various amounts of carbon and iron, with carbon content less than 1.35%. Other elements may also be present but in too small quantities to affect its physical properties.
We supply aluminized carbon steel wire, galvanized carbon wire and annealed wire.
Chemical Components:
Carbon steel wire with low carbon content has the same properties
as iron which is soft and easily formed.
The main chemical components are Fe and C, together with a small
number of Si, Mn, P and S. The performances of carbon steel wire
are depend on the amount of carbon content.
The carbon steel wire can be classified into 3 groups accordingly
to the carbon content inside.
Low Carbon Steel Wire: also known as mild steel wire, which contains 0.10% to 0.25% carbon. It is usually used for Chain, pin, bolt and shaft.
Medium carbon steel wire: It contains 0.25% to 0.60% carbon. It is applicated as construction material or used for mechanical parts.
High carbon steel wire: It contains 0.60% to 1.7% carbon. The typical applications include rolled springs, nails, binding, screw tap and so on.
Property of Different Carbon Content:
With rising carbon content, the wire becomes stronger and harder,
less ductile and quite difficult to weld. The higher carbon
content also makes the metal less resistant to temperatures by
lowering its melting point. Each of these types has specific uses
because they differ in properties. For example, the high carbon
steel wires are used to make drill bits, saws, masonry nails as
well as wood and metal cutting tools.
Application:
Making of springs, wire mesh fabrication, reinforcement of
concrete slabs, partition panels, building construction, ties and
lifting, nails, bolts and nuts, and etc.
Finishes:
Galvanized (Electro & hot-dip), aluminium coated / aluminised,
annealed, ungalvanized carbon steel wire, etc.
