Attapulgite clay is a mixture of clay and non-clay minerals with
its primary clay mineral being Palygorskite, a hydrous magnesium
aluminosilicate.
Palygorskite or attapulgite is a magnesium aluminium
phyllosilicate with the chemical formula
(Mg,Al) 2Si 4O 10(OH)·4(H 2O)
that occurs in a type of clay soil common to the Southeastern
United States.
Attapulgite is a rare magnesium aluminosilicate mineral with a
very high water absorption capacity. This makes it ideal
for
treating and preventing diarrhoea in humans and
animals.
Trials in animals also showed that digestive function is
improved
