1.Neomycin Sulphate can also be
given orally, where it is usually combined with other
antibiotics. Neomycin Sulphate is not absorbed from the
gastrointestinal tract and has been used as a preventive
measure for hepatic encephalopathy and hypercholesterolemia.
By killing bacteria in the intestinal tract,it keeps ammonia
levels low and prevents hepatic encephalopathy, especially
prior to GI surgery.
2.Neomycin Sulphate has also been used to treat small
intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Neomycin Sulphate is not
given via injection,as neomycin is extremely nephrotoxic
(causes kidney damage),even when compared to other
aminoglycosides.
Application:
1.Neomycin Sulphate can also be used as an adjuvant therapy
for bowel preparation before colon surgery or hepatic
coma.
2.Neomycin Sulphate should not be used for the treatment of
systemic infections.
3.Neomycin Sulphate mainly for the treatment of trachoma,
conjunctivitis, and so on
