Petroleum coke is used: to obtain the anode mass in the production of Al, graphite electrodes of arcfurnaces in the steel industry, in manufacturing CS2, Ca and Si carbides; as reducing agents in the chemical industry (e.g., in the production of BaS 2 from barite) and sulfidizers in non-ferrous metallurgy (for the conversion of metal oxides or metals, e.g. in the production of Si, Ni and Co, into sulfides in order to facilitate their subsequent extraction from ores); special grades as a structural material for the manufacture of corrosion-resistant equipment.
