Granular sulphur is used as a primary material in producing sulphur compounds, sulphuric acid, fertilizers, electric insulators, pharmaceutical products, tire production, gun powder and matches. Approximately 50% of the use of granular sulphur falls on the production of sulphuric acid, about 20-25% is used in the production of various sulphites, up to 15% for the needs of agriculture as raw materials for the production of pesticides. About 10% of the output is used in the process of vulcanization of rubber.
Turkmenistan is one of the major producers and exporters of granular sulphur in the world. It obtains sulphur from its oil and gas refineries, and reduces sulphur dioxide emission, which highly pollutes the atmosphere and causes acid rains, to almost zero1. Turkmenistan’s granular sulphur has a minimum purity of 99.50%, and is sold to both domestic and foreign markets. The price of granular sulphur varies depending on the region and the source, but it has increased significantly in the past few years due to the high demand and limited supply
