For applications requiring very high speeds and lower load carrying capacity, such as motor spindles, the Floating Displacement bearing (FD) is the ideal non-locating bearing solution. FD bearings can achieve the same speeds as the working side HIGH SPEED angular contact ball bearings, while they run at more than twice the speed of standard cylindrical roller bearings.

Design The design of FD bearings corresponds essentially to a combination of a ball bearing outer ring and a cylindrical roller bearing inner ring. As standard, ceramic balls are used as rolling elements. The inner ring is made from the high performance steel Cronidur 30, allowing increased Hertzian contact pressures compared to conventional rolling bearing steel. The contact between the inner ring and the rolling elements ensures adequate load carrying capacity with the material combination of Cronidur 30 steel and ceramic balls. This design ensures unconstrained displacement of the outer ring in relation to the inner ring during operation, During fitting, the internal clearance must be matched in accordance with the operating conditions. Application Engineering offers support through simulation of operating conditions. FD bearings have the same external dimensions as spindle bearings of series B70 or cylindrical roller bearings of series N10. The adequate load carrying capacity, combined with suitability for very high speeds, presents the designer with completely new design possibilities for the non-locating bearing position. FD bearings can also be easily integrated in existing designs requiring low basic load ratings in order to increase the permissible speeds.
