Alumel is a magnetic alloy, it consists of approximately Nickel (95%), Manganese (2%), Aluminum (2%), and Silicon (1%), leading to good electrical resistivity and thermal conductivity. In addition to thermocouples, alumel is used for thermocouple extension wire. In thermocouples, this alumel alloy is used as negative conductor to fabricate type K thermocouples with chromel.

Alumel Conductor Pin Applications:

Our machined alumel pins are used as negative conductors in Type K thermocouples. Chromel–alumel thermocouples (type K) are a widely used general purpose device with a measurement sensitivity of 41 μV/°C. Their output characteristic is particularly linear over the temperature range between 700 °C and 1200 °C and this is therefore their main application, although their full measurement range is −200 °C to +1300 °C. Like chromel–constantan devices, they are suitable for oxidizing atmospheres but not for reducing ones unless protected by a sheath. Their measurement inaccuracy is ±0.75%.
