Tweezers are small hand tools used to grasp objects too small to be easily handled by human fingers. Tweezers are thumb-powered pincers, probably derived from tongs used to grasp or hold hot objects since the dawn of recorded history. In a scientific or medical context, they are commonly referred to simply as "forceps", a name used in conjunction with other grasping surgical instruments that resemble forceps, pincers and scissor-like clamps.

Tweezers use two third-class levers connected at one fixed end (the pivot point of each lever), with pincers at the others. In use, it is normally held with one hand in a pen grip between the thumb and forefinger (sometimes also the middle finger), with the upper end resting on the first dorsal interosseous muscle in the space between the thumb and forefinger. Spring tension holds the gripping ends apart until finger pressure is applied. This provides an extended grip and allows the user to easily grasp, manipulate and quickly release small or delicate objects with easily variable pressure.

People commonly use tweezers for such tasks as plucking facial or eyebrow hair, often using the term eyebrow tweezers. Another common use of tweezers is as a tool for handling small objects, including, for example, small, especially surface-mount electronic components and small mechanical parts for models and precision mechanisms. Stamp collectors use tweezers (stamp tongs) to handle postage stamps which, although large enough to be picked up by hand, could be damaged during handling; the jaws of the stamp pliers are smooth.
