We are Good Cocoa Bean, and for the past decade we have worked hard to establish relationships around the globe, and to make a difference to people’s lives- which we have done in Scotland, through our training and support placements within partner charities abroad.
Our ethos is based on the belief that everyone has the potential to be able to turn their lives around and do something great!
While building on these relationships, we were approached by a Ghanaian NGO to see if we would work collaboratively with them in addressing the issues around children’s education and exploitative child labour.
We have wanted to shine our own a light on child labour through cacao in particular, and have been given an opportunity (in the future) to look into buying a farm that we will have 100% managed and co-owned by cacao farmers, allowing room for innovative growing and allowing for further understanding of the cacao practices that seem to increase the need for child labour.
At this point in time: we were put in touch with a cacao cooperative in Ghana, called ABOCFA, as a stepping-stone to understanding the trading markets in the UK, EU and internationally. We have since received a 2023/2024 harvest of 10 tonnes, and are at the beginning stages of distributing as well as processing the cacao beans. We hope to build concrete traceability in cocoa and educate this to an evolving world of UK chocolate consumers.
