Pumice stone is essentially volcanic rock, highly pressurized rock is violently ejected from a volcano. Since it is made out of volcanic rock, pumice stone is lightweight and will even float in water.

Pumice could used for green house because pumice stone is a porous volcanic rock with a neutral pH level and is comprised of highly vesicular strands permeated with tiny air bubbles. The tiny pores on the surface of the pumice act as microscopic reservoirs to absorb and store nutrient-rich moisture, vitamins, and minerals.

Since it is created from porous volcanic rock, pumice stone gravel has a unique ability to trap and retain moisture. Pumice stone can be used as a soil improver in soils that do not have an ideal soil texture and suffer either from poor drainage or from insufficient moisture retention capacity.

The porous and complex surface of the pumice stones act as hundreds of tiny sponges, capturing the water and nutrients, and slowly secreting them back into the root system as needed. This allows for less frequent watering while meanwhile preventing overwatering.
